Kansei Engineering International (KEI)

About the journal

Kansei Engineering International, or KEI, is published by the authority of the Japan Society of Kansei Engineering (JSKE). Kansei Engineering International accepts articles in the entire fields of Kansei; the human reaction from sensory to mental state, that is, sensitivity, sense, sensibility, feeling, esthetics, emotion, affection and intuition.
Kansei Engineering International is published quarterly starting from 1999. Over 1,200 copies are printed and distributed worldwide.
Articles submitted to the journal should be original contributions and should not be under consideration for any other publication at the same time.

Editorial objectives

(1) Original Articles
To promote the science and technology of Kansei engineering by enunciating theoretical or evidential research. It should have an originality and specify the purpose / method / instrument / conclusion and include scientific or technical value of knowledge or conclusion.

(2) Review Articles
An original study about specified subject of technology, culture or history related to Kansei. It should reflect the author's point of view, idea and method and give an efficient suggestion to development of technology, culture or society.

(3) Research Report
Study bulletin such as historical materials, survey, observation, statistics or simulation about Kansei engineering. To promote new study, it should have reliability and utility, and include new knowledge.

Article features and formats required of authors

There are a number of specific requirements with regard to article features and formats which authors note carefully:
The manuscript to contribute should be Camera-Ready version following the [GUIDE FOR AUTHORS].

On the occasion of contribution of article

(1) The first author, at least, must be a member of JSKE.
(2) Please send the  [Contribution vote]  with the article together.
(3) One original paper and three copiers are necessary. One original should be printout in fine paper.
(4) Please fill out the [Contribution vote]., and states clearly the sort of the article( Original Articles, Review Articles or Research Report) in it.

The reviewing process

Each paper submitted is subject to the following review procedures.
(1) It is reviewed by the editor for general suitability for this publication.
(2) If it is judged suitable two reviewers are selected and a double blind review process takes place.
(3) Based on the recommendations of the reviewers, the editor then decides whether the particular article should be accepted as it is, revised or rejected.
The process descried above is a general one.
The editor, however, may, in some circumstances, vary this process.
 

Copyright Transfer Agreement

Copyright must be transferred to the publisher when the paper is accepted for publication.
The transfer of copy right from author to publisher must be clearly stated in writing before publishing.
 

Offprint charge

JSKE does not ask for a page charge of accepted contribution in Kansei Engineering International (KEI).

The author(s) can order offprint. Please refer to the table below.

GUIDE FOR AUTHORS

Kansei Engineering International (KEI)


GENERAL COMMENTS : Manuscripts should be written in standard grammatical English and submitted in the Camera-Ready Format in A4 size sheet. Submit three copies plus original of the complete manuscript including figures , tables, and references. The manuscript should be written in even pages, but also not exceeding 10 pages, including abstract, all figures, tables, and references. The title, subtitle (if necessary), name(s) of author(s), affiliation(s) and mailing address(es) should be identified, followed by an abstract of 200-300 words and 3-5 key words. More detailed instruction, "JSKE INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE FORMAT OF A CAMERA-READY MANUSCRIPT", is distributed to potential contributors by request.

FONTS : All text and caption fonts to be Times Roman or Times New Roman. The page margins and font sizes are as follows;
Page margins : top (25mm) , bottom (24mm), left and right (20mm), column interval (8mm)
Page margins : top (25mm) , bottom (24mm), left and right (20mm), column interval (8mm)
Title : 16 Point Normal / Capital Letter / Single Column & Centering
Subtitle (if necessary) : 12 Point Normal / Single Column & Centering
Name(s) of author(s) : 12 Point Normal / Single Column & Centering
Affiliation(s) and mailing address(es) : 9 Point Italic / Single Column & Centering
Abstract : 9 Point Normal / Single Column & Fully Justified (aligned with both left and right margins)
Key words : 9 Point Italic / Single Column (aligned with left margins)
Section and subsection headings : 10 Point Bold / Double Column / Fully Justified (aligned with both left and right margins)
Body text : 10 Point Normal / Double Column / Fully Justified (aligned with both left and right margins)
Figure and Table captions : 10 Point Normal
Minimum font size in figures and tables : 8 Point when containing page is printed at A4 size.

SECTION NUMBERS AND SUBSECTION NUMBERS: All sections except abstract and references to be numbered sequentially in the form 1., 2., 3., etc. All subsections (where appropriate) to be numbered sequentially in the form 1.1., 1.2., 2.1., 2.2., etc.

FIGURES AND TABLES: All figures including photographs to captioned below the figure, and all tables to captioned above the table. Captions to be justified left, aligned with the left edge of the figure or table. Captions to be of the form; Figure 1: Application Form for KANSEI, Table 1: Application Form for KANSEI, etc. All figures to be numbered sequentially in accordance with their first reference in the text. Similarly tables. Figures and tables to be placed in the text in numbered order and as close as possible to the point at which they are first referred to. Figures preferably to fit full width between margins. Where this is not appropriate the figure or table should be placed centrally on the page width. Text should not be wrapped around the figure or table. Placing two smaller figures side by side is acceptable. Photographs must be originals and should be pasted on the manuscript.

UNITS: SI unit systems are to be used in all texts, figures and tables.

REFERENCES: Publications, cited in the text should be collected at the end of the text. All references should appear in order with the numbers in parentheses, such as [1] or [2-7]. Journal are to be referred family name(s) of author(s) preceded by the initials of first and/or middle name, paper title and journal title (do not abbreviate the title), number of volume (number), start- and ending page number, and published year in parentheses. Books should be referred by the name(s) of author(s), book title, publisher, its location, and/or referred page number, published year in parentheses. Use the following system for arranging your references:

For journals
